Crystal Cove Historic District

Crystal Cove is an oceanfront project on Newport Coast containing 45 historic cottages built from the 1920’s to 40’s, and is on the National Register of Historic Places.  The State of California is restoring the cottages for public vacation and educational uses.  BGB has designed the site improvements for the final 17 cottages which will be reconstructed in 2022.

Pacific Drive Park

Pacific Drive Park completed a major refurbishment in early 2022.  Located in south Fullerton, the park now includes a new basketball half-court, adult exercise equipment, children’s play area with shade elements, refurbished restroom, and drought tolerant landscaping.  The neighborhood celebrated opening-day with speeches, folk dancing by local residents, and refreshments provided by the City.

Dilley Plaque Donation

BGB Senior Principal Bob Borthwick is shown with Bill Atkins at the recent [summer 2022] installation of a plaque to honor Laguna Greenbelt founder James Dilley.  The plaque is on display at the Nix Nature Center in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.  Borthwick, a board member of Laguna Greenbelt, Inc. provided coordination and text for the plaque, and Atkins was the graphic designer.

Lewis + Mason Townhomes

153 unit multi-family project in Anaheim received the “Attached Community of the Year” award in 2020 from the National BIA.  This “new urbanist” project features a large recreation area, pedestrian paseos, courtyards, and other site features using a Mediterranean-style plant palette.  Developer: Trumark Companies   Architect: KTGY

Woodcrest Park

The re-opening of Woodcrest Park in Fullerton was celebrated by a food truck and local entertainment.  The BGB-designed major refurbishment features include new basketball courts, an adult fitness area, children’s play areas, shaded picnic areas, and refurbished athletic fields.  The former frontage road was incorporated into the park as a paved “street scene”.

Heirloom Farms

This planned residential development incorporates three housing types around a signature park and recreation area. Located in the agricultural area of Temecula, Heirloom Farms features rustic and rural design elements and materials.  BGB prepared Entitlement Plans for MLC Holdings and is now completing the construction plans for Meritage Homes.

San Clemente Pedestrian Beach Trail

This popular trail extends 2.4 miles along the railroad corridor adjacent to the beach.  The trail has exceeded public use projections since it opened, and growth in users continues.  BGB was the prime consultant for this $15 M project which has received regional ASLA design awards and international recognition.

Manhattans

Located in the trend-setting community of Central Park West in Irvine, this 64-unit luxury townhome development features contemporary architecture and the bold use of succulents and other mid-century plantings that have been emulated by adjacent CPW projects.  BGB designed all hardscape and pedestrian elements.  Developer: Lennar.  Architect: KTGY

North Beach Promenade – SALT

A new mixed-use “wrap” project in downtown Oceanside near the public pier.  At street level is a large public plaza designed in a “nautilus” shell pattern with a kinetic sculpture as the focal point. The upper floors feature luxury apartments with an outdoor ocean view recreation terrace designed by BGB.  Developer: Pelican Properties  Architect: KTGY

Pearl Street Park

This small pocket park in northeast Fullerton opened in 2021.  A “jewel” of a park, the site is surrounded by apartments and carports, and was formerly a vacant lot filled with debris.  BGB assisted the City of Fullerton in applying for a highly-competitive Proposition 68 State Grant, which was successful.  This Grant provided funds for the park to be constructed.
