SENIOR PERSONNEL

ARTHUR GUY — President

Arthur Guy, is the managing principal for BGB Design Group along with directing a comprehensive approach to irrigation design for the firm, serving as the technical liason pertaining to water management issues which arise during the planning, design, and implementation of projects. Art’s knowledge of horticulture extends from high desert to tropical bioregions, enabling him to effectively design planting irrigation systems appropriate to individual environmental requirements.

Mr. Guy graduated from Cal Poly, Pomona with a Bachelors Degree in Landscape Architecture. He began his professional career with a prominent landscape architectural and irrigation / water management consulting firm in Southern California. In 1986, he established Arthur D. Guy & Associates and soon began collaborating with Robert Borthwick Associates. In 1998, a partnership was formed that has now evolved to become BGB Design Group.

Art is a registered Landscape Architect in California and Nevada, and has been an Examiner for the California State Board of Landscape Architects for licensure evaluation. He is a member of Irrigation Association and a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor.

JEFF KRAUS — Principal

Jeff Kraus as been with BGB Design Group for over 25 years, and has designed and managed projects of all types. Currently he is managing projects in the Rancho Mission Viejo community in Mission Viejo, CA as well as the Heirloom Farms community in Temecula, CA. These extensive development includes parcels with various housing types, parks and paseos, recreational pool facilities and sophisticated irrigation systems. Jeff’s experience with large scale projects and comprehensive knowledge of irrigation systems allows him to coordinate project infrastructure with multiple disciplines, as well as providing effective interface with public agencies.

In addition, Jeff manages the BGB, Inc. computer network. He has a comprehensive knowledge of CAD programs and related technology and applies his knowledge to advance our technical and computer graphic capabilities.

As a student at Cal Poly, Pomona, Jeff spent a semester abroad studying landscape architecture and history in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy. During his studies, he developed a strong interest in both the natural and urban environment. He enjoys working on a wide variety of projects including planned communities, parks and recreation facilities, urban redevelopment, and native plant restoration.

ROBERT BORTHWICK — Senior Principal

Robert Borthwick was the founder of the firm in 1979, and serves BGB Design Group as Senior Principal.  He has designed noteworthy public projects including parks, trails, historical waterfronts, scenic highway planning and canyon preservation.  He has also designed a wide range of private housing and commercial developments.

His ability to achieve consensus in difficult situations, and the resulting completed projects, has brought credit to his firm and the profession of landscape architecture.  Bob’s clients include public agencies and developers, both domestic and international.  He has been a dedicated and passionate instructor in landscape architecture and a respected community leader in causes that include open space preservation, restoration, trail planning, and town planning.  His projects have received local, statewide, and national awards and recognition.

Using thoughtful and conscientious approach to a sense of place, coupled with excellence in design, he has created projects respected by clients and fellow professionals, and enjoyed by public.  As a highly regarded representative of the profession of landscape architecture, Bob continues to provide design leadership on all projects.  Formerly the Chair of the Cal Poly Pomona Landscape Architecture Advisory Board, Bob has been an invited guest critic at the UCLA Landscape Architecture Extension and the USC School of Architecture Graduate program.

PAUL BETTENHAUSEN — Consulting Urban Designer

Paul Bettenhausen graduated from Ohio State University, Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelors Degree in Landscape Architecture. In 1978, he joined POD / Sasaki, a nationally recognized urban design, planning and landscape architecture firm, where he worked as a senior designer and project manager for approximately six years. Subsequently, Paul entered in graduate school and received a Masters Degree in Architecture at UCLA.

After graduate school Mr. Bettenhausen maintained a consulting practice for several years until joining Gruen Associates as a designer/planner. In addition to Gruen Associates, Paul gained valuable experience at several other prominent Los Angeles-based architectural fi rms, including RTKL, MCG and CTHI, where he developed a comprehensive knowledge of retail, commercial, resort/hotel, themed entertainment, civic, institutional and residential project types. Internationally, his experience includes projects in China, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Mexico, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, India , Morocco, Algeria and Dubai.

Mr. Bettenhausen is an associate member of the American Institute of Architects and is a licensed Landscape Architect in the State of California.
