Project Description

OCSD PLANT 2

Location:  Orange County, CA
Client:  Orange County Sanitation District
Project Type:  Habitat Restoration / Screening

The OCSD Headworks Replacement Project (P2-66) was designed in 2004 with construction of the entry plaza completed in 2013. The Plaza offers a new public friendly view of Plant No. 2 entry while screening the Headworks infrastructure with a formal layered planting of Date Palms and Olive trees.
The foreground planting of Carex and Aloe species give way to a gridded planting of Hesperaloe and Festuca where guests and employes can find respite on monolithic concrete seating which interplays with decomposed walks. The irrigation is subsurface landscape dripline that, in companion with the drought tolerant plant palette, showcases the District’s philosophy of water conservation.
The adjacent Operations Control Building (J-122 Project), currently in the design phase will continue with a renovated entry courtyard landscapes with “California Friendly” plantings.
