ALISO CREEK MASTER PLAN

Location:  Orange County, CA
Client:  County of Orange [Pro-Bono]
Project Type:  Regional Trails and Land-Use  Master Plan

The County of Orange used the Master Plan concepts developed by the volunteer study team to prepare the Aliso Creek Corridor Specific Plan, which received a statewide American Planning Association Award.  In recognition for his leadership and committment to the project, Bob Borthwick was appointed by the Board of Supervisors as the public member of the Aliso Creek Corridor Task Force.  The Task Force was in charge of overseeing the preparation of the Specific Plan.

The Task Force met monthly for three years to review and evaluate land use plans within the nineteen mile long corridor.  The decision to relocate the proposed El Toro Road widening to preserve an historic Eucalyptus windrow and retain the “old” two lane road in upper El Toro as a bike path is an example of an idea generated by  Borthwick that has since been implemented.
