IKEA, with their commitment to innovative design and environmental issues, is among an elite group of international corporations. Recognizing that the landscaping of the new Costa Mesa facility had to be both attractive and sustainable, the design satisfies City requirements while also supporting IKEA’s corporate philosophy.
A dramatic, contemporary tree and shrub palette was chosen to reflect IKEA’s sophisticated design approach and is served by a state-of-the-art irrigation system to conserve water. The use of “structural soil” for backfill around parking lot planters increases the root zone for the trees without compromising the subgrade compaction under the asphalt paving.
This project was constructed in two phases and completed in 2004.
