CRYSTAL COVE HISTORIC DISTRICT

Location:  Newport Coast, CA
Client:  California State Parks / Crystal Cove Cottages
Project Type:  Historic Refurbishment and Site Improvements

Comprised of 46 historic beach cottages constructed from the 1920’s to the 1940’s, this unique project is on the National Register of Historic Places.  BGB is responsible for all hardscape and pedestrian infrastructure, in addition to period-specific historic landscape design.  The cottages are being restored for short-term vacation rentals available to the public and are part of the California State Parks system.

Current design work involves Phase III of the project, including the final 17 cottages.  The Crystal Cove Historic District is a national model for affordable coastal accommodations and an idyllic setting for environmental education and STEM programs for underserved youth.
